snOMG.

snOMG, indeed. our little rowhouse is blanketed with about 30" of snow, & we're indefinitely snowbound. (hey, ddot - any chance of a plow making it's way over here anytime soon?) in the meantime, we're going for 'long' walks (as far as the little one's legs will take her), & watching more movies than i can count.
after a romp in the snow on saturday, prince charming pulled out his favorite julia child cookbook & got to work on a cheese & spinach souffle. yes, my husband made us a cheese & spinach souffle. i'm a lucky, lucky girl.monday bliss will return next week after this brief, unscheduled hiatus... got ideas for future monday bliss? send them my way... stacilyn{at}spearcefeldman.com

calm.

saturday brought another round of snow to the hill. snow has such a calming effect on me: my to do list vanished & my slate was wiped clean. the long week melted away. pabby seemed especially calmed by the weather... she spent hours watching the snow fall...

you're not going to leave, are you?

prince charming & i are packing our bags for the next adventure. i came downstairs this morning to find this sad face staring at me. how does she always know??

twenty-one.

our practice child, pabby, turned twenty-one last week! okay. fine. she's really three, but three in four-legged years is twenty-one, right? okay. i know. it's not like i have a degree in veterinary science...

prince charming & i never pass up an excuse for a party - four-legged or otherwise. so we planned, plotted & arranged for the best four-legged twenty-first birthday we could imagine. pabby is something of a spoiled brat. prince charming treats her like gold & i might admit to going a bit overboard in the treats & toys category.

prince charming staked out seats at our favorite local spot, while i arranged to get an amazing doggie cake from our favorite dc doggie bakery. they did such a fabulous job! i thought i was picking up a regular 5" round birthday cake - but they went the extra mile & did a bang up job making the perfect cake for our 'pabst blue ribbon' (we call her pabby).she figured out pretty quickly that the cake was for her......so without a whole lot of fuss...
...she got down to business & wouldn't even look at the camera.
that piece was gone in a minute. or less. the owner of the restaurant brought out a plate of bacon for her - she devoured that, another slice of cake & fries that 'happened' to fall from prince charming's plate. somebody got treated right on their birthday!

farewell, baby.

city living has taken it's toll on our priorities. what i once cherished, i now have to reconsider. space is at a premium. i'm crestfallen this week, because i'm giving up my beloved beach cruiser. my baby's been with me for years & we've been through an awful lot together. beginning in my early years, my bike was my transportation to the beach, the club, anywhere within a five-mile radius, really. in more recent years, i've added a gorgeous, padded, puppy-friendly bike basket for my four-legged bff. we've done more market trips than i can count.

alas - time to move on. last night, bff & i took one last slow, easy ride around the neighborhood to say goodbye. farewell candy-apple red cruiser. you've made me such a happy girl for these last twelve (12!) years.

sunday dog day.

sunday was unbearable here in the 'shallow south' (as prince charming likes to call it). we're not quite down in the deep south, & we're definitely not yankees... so we live in the 'shallow south'. this weekend, the washington area skipped over spring, as we often do, & we jumped feet first into the blistering, disgusting, icky summer. prince charming & i dread using air conditioning... something about energy costs & our post-collegiate wallets, so we decided to pack up a blanket, beverages & our four legged bff & hit the local park in search of some shade instead.

...the winner of the staring contest is yet to be determined.

the kibble factory.

when i was a little girl, my daddy used to tell me he brought home 'the bacon'. you know - the proverbial, 'got to go to work to bring home the bacon'. in my oh-so-innocent mind, i thought my father worked in a bacon factory. where else would he get bacon to bring home every day??

now that i have my own 'child' (ahem, see above), prince charming & i tease her that we work at the 'kibble factory', & we work very hard to bring home the kibbles. she decided she'd like to join me at the office today to see exactly what it is that's so hard about bringing home the kibbles... thus far, i think she's unimpressed.
